Why "Zobelle Exercise Physiology & Wellbeing (ZEPW)"?

Who is ZEPW?

Hi, I'm Zoe Ruth. I'm an accredited exercise physiologist, and I've been within the health industry for over 10years. Welcome to my site, although not perfect, I thought it's time to have something here! I've been working as a sole trader, as Zobelle Exercise Physiology & Wellbeing (ZEPW) since late 2020. I decided to create ZEPW so I could shape my role of the clinician I want to be and how I can help people. I believe in diversifying and allowing for change as it feels right, and trading as ZEPW allows me to shift where I feel pulled and where my passions lead me, rather than being locked into a "role" and a singular identity of how I can help or what I do.

A bit about what I do...

I was blessed to have a beautiful relationship with my maternal grandparents whom I grew up very close with when I was young. I have them to thank for my passion in working with the older generation, particularly those living in retirement villages and nursing homes. I believe it is something special to be able to support our elderly in living a more fulfilled, healthy, and as independent life as they can. This is my focus of the majority of my work, as well as working with individuals who are not within our older community who I feel I connect well with to support. It may be working through health challenges, navigating the changes as we age, strategies for day-to-day management, injury, pain and/or surgery recovery and safe movement. I enjoy spending time to help where I can, and if I can't help with something, then helping them to find the right network that can.

What I offer

I am currently based within Melbourne's South Eastern suburbs, and provide support via home visits and telehealth consultations. In some local retirement villages I run movement classes and am working on running more presentations to help empower residents.

If you would like to enquire about support through ZEPW, please use the "Send me an Enquiry!" button at the bottom of the page or reach me through my listed contact details. I'd love to hear from you :)

Why this is important

I envisage a time when we don't need to talk about the gaps in the health care setting for our older generation/s. A time when we don't need to talk about the delay in care that can happen, or the barriers in accessing appropriate care. A time where we don't need to talk "about it", because it's being dealt with appropriately and there are more and more health professionals stepping in and stepping up for our older generations, and impacting others in the community to do the same. This is what drives me. It is close to my heart and personal to me, to do what I can and impact those around me to do the same for our older generations. The more of us that hold this care and passion, the more that can continue to change it for the better.

My approach

I get to know each of the people I work with through an initial appointment, and over the course of their care. Caring, listening and understanding the needs and wants of each individual person is what drives each session and contact point. I tailor my care, which could include strategies, education, and movement / exercise. I work to empower each person through a personal, thorough and holistic approach to be able to feel and experience an improvement or maintenance (because this too is a very important thing!) in health and wellbeing.

Who I help is purely based on what the needs are, and how I can meet these needs according to what is appropriate.

Some of the common areas I support the older populations with:

- understanding pain and reducing it

- recovering after surgery and returning to day-to-day activities

- rehabilitation following joint replacements

- improvement of strength and balance

- improving walking and being able to move around the house/residence how would like to

- injury management and rehabilitation

- post-medical event rehabilitation e.g. from stroke, heart attack

- adjusting to changes occurring and modifying lifestyle
